The Most Noteworthy Training Camp Trades in NFL History

The trade deadline is a critical part of the NFL, as teams can make significant moves before the season’s commencement. While the number of impactful transactions has enlarged, commands still make important moves during the summer.

The Most Noteworthy Training Camp Trades in NFL History

Here is a list of the most noteworthy trades during the exhibition season, training camp, and online bookmaker over the past forty years.

2020: Vikings become a middle stop for Yannick Ngakoue

During the time of Tom Coughlin, the ex-executive vice president for the Jacksonville Jags, issues within the organization entailed the departure of some players. The command traded Yannick Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings for two draft selections last month of summer.

The Vikings were reportedly looking for a pass-rushing threat after a sluggish beginning. They passed him to the Baltimore Ravens in October for 2 3rd-round and a 5th-round draft pick. He then went to the Raiders and Indianapolis before ultimately being sent back to the Vikings.

2020: Jets pass on Jamal Adams extension

The New York Giants did not use the franchise tag on safety Jamal Adams, and this ended the contact between the 2 parties.

The Giants then dealt Adams to the Seattle Seahawks for a pair of draft picks. Bradley McDougald was also sent to Seattle.

The Seahawks took a year to reach a contract agreement with Adams, who was dissatisfied with the squad’s situation. They then gave him a deal that was reportedly worth over $17 million annually.

2019: Dolphins’ teardown includes Laremy Tunsil trade

In 2019, the Miami Dolphins made several significant moves as a division of their rebuilding effort. One of the biggest of these was the trade that sent Tunsil to the Raiders.

The Houston Texans made a great deal in 2019 as part of their rebuild. They dealt Kenny Stills and a pair of draft selections to the Raiders for a pair of role players and a 1st-round selection. Tunsil established a record for a left tackle in 2020. The Dolphins then signed Terron Armstead two years later.

2019: Texans tag-and-trade Jadeveon Clowney

The trade deadline was the main factor that influenced the final week of the 2019 exhibition season. Houston made several moves during that time, including obtaining Tunsil and signing Jadeveon Clowney.

Both of these former first-round draft picks had already played out their contracts.

The Texans then ended their relationship with Jadeveon after trading him to the Seattle Seahawks. Although he was the top pick in the draft, he failed to live up to his promise and has not signed a prolonged contract.

2018: Raiders send Khalil Mack to Bears

The 1st of many such deals involved teams giving up their first-round draft collections for a talented player. The Raiders dealt Mack to the Chicago Bears during Jon Gruden’s 2nd tenure.

Oakland passed Mack to Chicago for 2 first-round draft picks and a third-round pick. Despite getting a second-round selection, the Bears were not able to make a great influence with the deal.

The Raiders and Mack failed to come to an agreement, with Jon claiming that the squad did not want to give him a prolonged contract because of the extension given to quarterback Derek Carr in 2017.

The Bears, on the other hand, were not able to make much of an impact with the deal as Mitchell Trubisky had issues with the command.

2017: Seahawks begin run of late-summer protector adds

The late-summer trade period has been a well-known tendency under John Schneider and Pete Carroll. In 2017, the Seattle Seahawks dealt Sheldon Richardson to the New York Giants for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and a 2nd-round draft collection.

Although he was a 1st-round draft collection, Richardson was never able to develop into an effective player.

In 2018, Sheldon Richardson was released by the Minnesota Vikings after he was not able to support the command. The New York Giants then obtained Sam Darnold from the Vikings.
